Deputy Head for Asia Zero Emission Center

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) is an international organisation based in Jakarta. Since its founding in 2008, ERIA, through its research, supports the regional economic integration process among ASEAN member countries. As the leading economic think tank in the region and the Sherpa institution for the East Asia and ASEAN Summit process, ERIA’s research and policy recommendations have influenced the policymaking process in the region.

• Manage and develop the Center’s activities, including research projects, organizational strategy development, outreach initiatives, internal team building, and collaboration with external partners, in order to shape ERIA’s contribution to the region’s energy agenda.

• Formulate policy recommendations and provide policy advice and strategies on energy, contributing to energy security, economic growth, and decarbonization at both regional and national levels in ASEAN and East Asia. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in the field.

• Engage with key stakeholders—such as governments, industry, academia, and international and non-governmental organizations—involved in the energy sector through knowledge management, policy guidance, technical assistance, and capacity building.

• Lead technical teams in undertaking policy-oriented research and analysis related to energy.

• Support the Head of the Center in managing overall operations, including providing direction to project teams to ensure coherence, quality, and timely delivery of outputs in line with ERIA’s priorities, managing internal human resources, and overseeing multiple projects.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the President, COO, Chief Economist, Director General for Research and Policy Design, the Head of the Center, and/or other senior management officials.

Qualifications:

• An advanced degree in public policy, public management, energy policy, economics, development, or another relevant field.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.

• A deep understanding of energy policy and the energy transition in the region.

• Demonstrated ability to conceptualize policy-relevant solutions and implications, and to implement them with practical considerations.

• Extensive experience—more than five years—in conducting or managing research-related projects on energy, particularly in think tanks, research institutes, government, or the private sector.

• Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in energy and related fields within ASEAN and East Asia. Knowledge of and research experience in ASEAN and East Asian countries are strongly preferred.

• Proven leadership and technical expertise in developing functional and organizational strategies.

Language:

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Proficiency in Asian languages would be a strong asset.
