Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) is affiliated with Plan International which was founded by a British journalist John Langdon-Davies and a humanitarian worker Eric Muggeridge in 1937, with the initial goal is to provide food, accommodation and education to children whose lives had been disrupted by the Spanish Civil War. Langdon-Davies conceived the idea of a personal relationship between a child and a sponsor – a sponsorship model that puts the child at the centre and remains the core of what we do.
Today, Plan International is known as a global organisation that is active in 75 countries, including Indonesia, with current vision is to advance children’s rights and equality for girls.
In Indonesia, Plan International operated in 1969 as ‘Foster Parents Plan Foundation’ or ‘Plan International Indonesia’. We focused on the area of Yogyakarta as requested by the Former Governor of Yogyakarta Province, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwana IX, with a mission to protect the rights of abandoned children.
